Perth Theatre Company has been producing professional theatre in Western Australia since its foundations in Fremantle as SWY Theatre in 1983. The Company moved to 65 Murray Street in Perth in 1987. In 1994 it adopted the trading name of Perth Theatre Company and became a resident of the Playhouse Theatre. In 1996, Perth Theatre Company became a company limited by guarantee.
Perth Theatre Company is proud to develop new West Australian theatre, supporting and providing new opportunities for local artists. In 2008, Perth Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Alan Becher passed away. Melissa Cantwell was appointed the Company's new Artistic Director, and debuted her directing skills in this role with Sir Peter Shaffer’s masterpiece Equus at His Majesty’s Theatre in September 2009.
