West Australian Opera
West Australian Opera was established in 1967 and is Western Australia’s only full-time, professional opera company. The company presents operas drawn from the popular operatic repertoire and as well as the commissioning and development of new repertoire.
The company offers an annual subscription season of three main stage productions in His Majesty’s Theatre and a free outdoor public event ‘City of Perth’s Opera in the Park’ which attracts approximately 15,000 people in Supreme Court Gardens. In addition there is a focus on delivering programs in regional Western Australia as well as education activities in metropolitan schools and ancillary activities including the Young Artist Program, artists in residence, concerts and community events.
West Australian Opera’s vision is to make opera a live, relevant and accessible art form for all Western Australians. Programs presented serve to develop and nurture Australian artists and audiences, and through them ensure the vitality and relevance of the art form.
